The High Priestess & 2 of Swords
The High Priestess & 2 of Swords
Analysis:
Both cards are associated with the number 2.
Each card features a blue background with a large body of water. The water lines also match up perfectly.
Each card features a figure who sits on a stone pillar, in the centre of the card, facing head-on.
Each figure wears a white gown and has black hair.
Each card speaks to the use of intuitive faculties. The High Priestess is often associated with intuition (more accurately, instinct), and the 2 of Swords wears a blindfold meaning they can only look within. Inner sight and trusting what one senses (not just externally sees) is an important feature of both cards.
There is a crescent moon featured in both of the cards. In the 2 of Swords we see it in the sky, and in The High Priestess, we see one on the ground.
Each card speaks to the theme of balance. Some examples include the number 2, the fact that the figures occupy the middle space of the card, the two pillars representing polarity, and the crossed swords.
The cross is another feature linking these cards. In the 2 of Swords, the figure sits with their arms/swords crossed. The High Priestess also wears a cross in the centre of their chest. Both cards have obvious links to the moon, which could also associate them with the goddess, Hekate, who presides over crossroads.
What do YOU see???
Possible Interpretation:
There is seeing, and then there is seeing. The High Priestess and the 2 of Swords speak to a different kind of use of the visual faculty - one that has us turning inward. The great sea behind both can symbolize the depths of our subconscious mind. The insights we get from this region should be explored, not because they always have accurate information, but because they are often trying to tell us something. It will take wisdom to discern between good information and fear based when it comes from this region, but The High Priestess and 2 of Swords come together to guide one through that process. Be still, be silent, take your time. External appearances can be deceiving - trust your inner sight.
